Thank you to Conservation Lands Foundation for their generous support for this event to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the California Desert Protection Act!
This Fall we are celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the passing of the California Desert Protection Act. Two-thirds of Red Rock Canyon’s current acreage is the result of Congress passing the California Desert Protection Act in 1994. Congress recognized the importance of Red Rock Canyon’s heritage as a valued and precious desert environment.
We are celebrating this momentous occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the California Desert Protection Act by holding this fun-filled family event – “Hidden Treasures of Red Rock” to focus on appreciation of Red Rock Canyon State Park and the importance of protecting the desert environment.
Traveling to have one’s photograph taken next to the striking scenic rock formation became a popular past time years before the roads were even paved. The Instagram Photo Contest being held on November 9th, 2019 will guide participants to some of the more easily accessible and well-known rock formations that were given “place names” over the decades by travelers to Red Rock. Visit our Webpage with a historic overview of “Place Names at Red Rock.”
